30th Annual Meeting- Preparing for the Next Generation
Preview
California is home to a large culturally and ethnically diverse older
population, yet we do not have an appropriately trained workforce
to meet their needs. CCGG will begin the dialogue to address this
important issue by highlighting competencies, educational tools, and
programs. We will also provide thoughtful consideration of the following
timely questions:
How can we prepare students to respond to an increasingly diverse
older population?
How can gerontology students and graduates succeed in today’s job
market?
What’s new and innovative in curriculum development?
How does one teach and incorporate evidence based health promotion
into programs and models?
Educators, Legislators and Aging Service Providers will…
Identify innovative approaches and tools for teaching Evidence
Based Health Promotion (EBHP).
Explore creative ways to incorporate EBHP models into their aging
programs, curricula, and practice.
Discuss and teach about competencies needed to care for California’s
diverse aging population.
Students will…
Explore educational pathways to prepare for careers in aging.
Discover traditional and non-traditional jobs in aging.
Delve into the diversity and complexities of our demographics important
to careers in aging.
Identify program and job opportunities created by California’s
diverse demographics.
Everyone will…
Examine the importance of cultural proficiency and the role it plays
in caring for California’s diverse aging population.
Be inspired by a gerontology graduate, Eleanor Brownn, MA in Gerontology,
who created Life-Long: Sisters Staying Healthy, a community organization
dedicated to eliminating ethnic and racial disparities in the areas
of life expectancy and quality of life.
