Nancy Hikoyeda, DrPH, MPHDr. Nancy Hikoyeda is the Director of the San Jose State University Gerontology Program. She has a B.S. from the University of Utah and an M.P.H. and Certificate in Applied Social Gerontology from San Jose State University. She received her Dr.P.H. from the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Hikoyeda's area of expertise is in ethnogerontology and ethnogeriatrics – studies of aging, ethnicity, and health. Her particular interests focus on long term care policies/utilization, end-of-life issues, and health literacy. She has co-authored and edited numerous curriculum and training materials as well as chapters on older adults and Asian/Pacific Islanders in Social Work Practice with the Asian American Elderly; the Encyclopedia of Aging; Cultural Issues in End-of-Life Decision Making; and most recently in the Handbook of Geriatric Care Management and Ethnicity and the Dementias (Second Edition). Dr. Hikoyeda is President of the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics and a member of the Core Faculty of the Stanford Geriatric Education Center. She is an emeritus member of the San Jose Senior Citizens Commission, is part of the Mayor’s Aging Leadership Council, and serves on numerous community advisory committees. In 2006, she received a Provost’s Award for Excellence in Service Learning. |
